Ice Cave Adventure, Eisriesenwelt

The ancient ice caves are situated on the road to Salzburg – a 60-minute drive from Ramada Residences Saalfelden, in Eisriesenwelt. These impressive caves, home to the largest ice cave in the world, were first discovered in the late 19th century by explorer, Anton Posselt, and are now one of the most famous attractions in Austria.

Visitors to these enormous, yet intricate ice formations must climb 134 metres to reach the top of the caves. Heavy shoes and warm clothing are recommended. Even in summer the temperature is usually below freezing. Lamps are handed out at the entrance to the cave, and during the tour, additional magnesium lighting highlights the ice sculptures to great effect. The cave itself is a national monument and may only be entered with authorised guides. Great fun for all the family.
